One might think of history as a perpetual game of ‘Chinese Whispers,’ illustrating how orally disseminated stories were easily distorted & evolved as reflections of particular cultures & attitudes.
Obviously this is an oversimplification of how myths, folklore, etc. are propagated,¹ but try playing this game ² with Chuck Brown blaring on thine olde hi-fi, reciting a passage from ‘The Rime of the Ancient Mariner.’
Those go go beats are distracting, no?
